The First (Johann Strauss) Kaufmanniana Tulip

Johann Strauss Kaufmanniana Tulips have blooms of butter yellow with red accents.The foliage of this early spring blooming tulip is dark green with burgundy markings . Johann Strauss works best when planted as a border for a solid red and/or yellow garden. Tulip kaufmanniana open to look like a water lily on very short stems. Kaufmanniana tulips are known to be among the more reliable tulips for being perennial.

Tulip Growing Advice

• Plant in full sun to partial shade
• Tulips
  need cold temperatures in order to produce a bloom, and are best suited
  in climates that have 12-16 weeks of consistently cold temps (below 50
  degrees) during the day.
• Drainage is essential to the survival
  of tulips. Plant in garden beds that have been amended with organic
  matter if your soil does not drain well.
• To encourage the
  possibility of blooms for the next season, keep the leaves intact until
  they have yellowed, withered and can easily be removed from the soil.
• Fertilize
  tulips in fall at planting with a slow release granular fertilizer.
  When leaves emerge in Spring you may fertilize your tulips again with
  the same slow release granular fertilizer.
